Utility - Backup - Database
Menu Selection: Document - Utility - Backup - Database
Purpose
This document allows the user to back up the LILAC database.
Prerequisites
The back up device must have been specified in the company data in the Backup Device field. If you wish to use the CD burning facilities, you must be using either Windows XP, or the RSJ CD Burning software, and the Support CD Burning field in the company data must be set to Y.
Context
A back up of the LILAC database should be performed at the end of each day. Backing up a database provides guarantees that any database errors are detected with 24 hours of occurrence, and also provides a safe guard against system failure. A LILAC database can generally be restored within 2 hours, if needed.
If using an IOmega Zip Drive, set the Backup Device field in the company data to be the drive letter (i.e. e:\). This will automatically back the database up to the removable drive.
If using a CD Burner, set the Device field in the company data to be c:\backup. When you click the Backup button, that will verify the integrity of the database and create/update the file data.zip. If the Support CD Burning field in the company data is set to Y, make sure there is a blank write able CD in the CD Burner, and then click the Burn button. Once the burn is complete, it will eject the CD. If you are running Windows XP, you may be prompted for information by the CD Burning Wizard.
If Support CD Burning field in the company data is not set to Y, you will need to manually burn the file to CD.
No other means of back up are supported in LILAC 3.
