Menu Selection: Document - Parameters - Product Groups
Purpose
This document allows the entry, and modification of product groups.
Prerequisites
This document facilities the initial creation or editing of a product group details. There are no mandatory prerequisites, but the Group Type, Supplier 1 and Process fields are search only and refer to data that should be pre-defined. See Parameters - Group Types, Creditor - Account and Production - Process Specification.
Context
Product Group codes are used to classify products from the inventory for discount and reporting purposes.
About This Screen
| Field | Enterable? | Instructions |
| Group | Yes | Type in the new product group key. |
| Name | Yes | Enter in a description of the product group. |
| Taxable | Yes | Tick the Taxable field if the products in this group are subject to GST. |
| Group Type | Yes | Type in the group type key (to search, click the right mouse button or strike the F12 key). Information on Group Types can be found in the Parameters - Group Types online help. |
| Mark Up | Yes | A optional percentage which is to be used to compute the selling prices of product in this group, based upon the cost price of the product. |
| Rounding | Yes | Specialised rounding functions |
| Supplier1 | Yes | Type in the creditor’s key (to search, click the right mouse button or strike the F12 key). This field represents the primary supplier of all products in this group. |
| Parent Group | Yes | Type in the parent product group for this group. This is used in Active Server. Both the parent and the product group need to be marked as public. If a product group has no parent group, it is displayed on the first page. When a user clicks on the hyperlink for that group, if it is established as a parent group for any product groups then those produce groups are displayed, else all the products in that group are displayed per usual. |
| Process | Yes | Type in the manufacturing process key (to search, click the right mouse button or strike the F12 key). This indicates that all products in this group must go through this process. Information on process specification can be found at Production - Process Specification. |
| Public | Yes | Tick this field if the product group, and the products in the group are to appear on HTML pages generated by Active Server. (i.e. make all the products in the group available for purchase on the internet). |
| Sort Line | Yes | Normally reports and Active Server present product groups in alphabetical order. Specifying a line number in this field, will force these reports and Active Server to present the product groups in numeric order. |

After creating the required product groups, you can now update the Product Master Record, with this information. Once a product is associated with a product group, you will be able to use the From Group and To Group fields in the Parameters - Reporting, to limit the information produced on some reports.
You will also be able to set up Active Server so that your customers can shop online.
